Start the New Year Knitting for Others

As you may know, The Neighborhood Knit Shop has started a new focus on charity knitting, with We Knit Neighbors Together.  To learn more about the program, visit our WKNT.org page.

Knit Baby Items for CharityWhat you may not know is that WKNT extends well beyond our little group.  We’re knitting neighbors together across the state and hopefully eventually across the country and the globe!  For starters, we’re excited to be joining with other local yarn shops to get involved with Knit and Crochet Tennessee’s upcoming event, The Big Stitch.  The event takes place Saturday, January 24th in Nashville.  (For more information, download their PDF flier.)  Crocheters and knitters will gather to work on blankets to donate to babies born at General Hospital at Meharry.  If you’re new to knitting, don’t be afraid! — Our own Pat Harris will be on hand to help you get started, as will lots of other volunteers.  This is a great opportunity to meet other knitters and kick-start your charity knitting for the new year.

We will also be hosting We Knit Neighbors Together charity knitting events at the shop over the coming months.  The next get-together will be Sunday, January 18th at 2 p.m.  We’ll be working on baby blankets for Meharry as well as chemo hats for St. Thomas cancer support group.  Whether you’re a beginning knitter or advanced, or if you prefer a small project or something large, there’s plently of opportunity to get involved.  We hope to see you there!
