3rd Annual YarnOver(load)!

What a great turn-out we had for the 3rd annual YarnOver this past Saturday! It was food, fun, and fiber -overload!!
Visit our photo gallery page to see pictures from the event.
Many of our knitters participated in our first fingerless mitten swap. They knitted a pair of fingerless mitts, wrapped them up and put them under our tree, then we drew numbers corresponding to each package and everyone went home with a new pair of lovely mitts!
There were fingerless mittens in every color, pattern, shape, and size you could imagine. And they were all just beautiful. You can see lots of photos in the gallery, but here’s a sampling:
Don’t we have some wonderfully talented knitters?
We also have some very talented chefs, we discovered. The food everyone brought to share was delicious! It sparked the idea of a knit shop cookbook. If you’d like to submit a recipe of yours for the book, please e-mail it to Sharon at info@neighborhoodknitshop.com. Be looking for more details about the cookbook (and how you can get a copy!) in the coming months.
A reminder — Spa night is next Saturday, 12/20! Please call the shop if you’d like to attend.

Our Weekend with Maggie
This past weekend, the shop had the pleasure of hosting A Weekend with Maggie Jackson of MaggiKnits. You can find lots of photos from the weekend in our photo gallery.
Our event kicked off Friday night with a MaggiKnits fashion show! Thanks to everyone who helped with the show and to all our beautiful and talented models who walked the runway to show off these wonderful garments.
Maggie’s designs were amazing and met with lots of applause from the group. Maggie demonstrated how many of the garments can be worn in multiple ways so that they flatter women of any shape or age.
At the end of the show, everyone was able to try on the garments and get advice from Maggie herself on picking out yarn color combinations for their projects.
Saturday, Sunday, and Monday were all class days with Maggie.
Saturday’s class was called “Oh No… Not Another Scarf”. Students learned many of Maggie’s techniques including knotting, splits, and tubes all while getting to work with her lovely linen yarns. The swatch students created in class could later become a scarf, wall-hanging, pillow, or almost anything else their imaginations can dream up!
On Sunday, students attended “Let’s Get Purse-On-L” and learned even more techniques to create a fun and funky linen drawstring purse. Again, the purse was knitted using MaggiKnits Linen and other fun yarns such as Maggi’s Rag and Maggi’s Cotton were added in for variety in color and texture.
Finally, Maggie’s classes wrapped up on Monday with “Knot It and Knit It”, another class challenging students to think outside the box and be more creative and free-form with their knitting.
If you missed Maggie Jackson while she was here, be sure to stop by the shop to check out her pattern books and yarns. You’re sure to fall in love with them!
In addition, we’re going to be having a MaggiKnits-A-Long to help you keep motivated on your new projects. We’ll gather as a group at the knit shop to knit-a-long on our MaggiKnits projects on January 3rd, 17th, & 31st and on February 14, & 28th from 3-4:30 p.m.
Then on March 17th (St. Patrick’s Day!), we’ll have our MaggiKnits Night Out party and go out on the town decked out in MaggiKnits. Stop in the shop to pick out your pattern and yarn to join in!
